30 images"Los Angeles: Dedicated to Raymond Chandler" Digital Captures. Between 2006-2009 I lived in two neighborhoods where Raymond Chandler had once lived. During this time I also read, or re-read, most of his short stories. A dark, "noir" atmosphere seemingly took over my images due to his influence and the architecture of where I was living: So. Citrus Avenue and W. 4th St. & La Jolla Avenue.

15 images"4th Street Backyards: Story of a Relationship" Digital Captures. During my "Raymond Chandler Period" I lived on W. 4th St. & La Jolla Ave. 2007-2009, around the corner from Drexel Ave. where Mr. Chandler had once lived. This was also the end of a long, 17 year "relationship" with the man I was sharing this large space with. I discovered this backyard "set" on the west-side of our building, which changed subtly from day to day, with dramatic lighting changes from dawn to dusk. Photographs from this window on the second floor, became a series of images, which gradually darkened, much like the lights dimming on a theatrical stage. The last image, before I moved out, was almost black, the ending of the play...

20 images"Orange Umbrella" and two other images from this series, plus a pool image from "California Ruins" are included in Getty, 2011-2012 initiative "Pacific Standard Time: Art in Los Angeles, 1945-1980" for the Palm Springs Art Museum's "Pacific Standard Time" exhibition "The Swimming Pool in Southern California Photography, 1945-1982" opening January, 2012. http://www.pacificstandardtime.org. "The Motel Series" grew out of a portfolio on "California Ruins" that I ibrought to California Magazine, published in the Nov. 1982 issue. Once the magazine took over the direction of the "Ruins" Series, I began shooting a new group of images where I could have complete control again. "The Motel Series" was shot on Kodachrome 64 film, with my Olympus XA Camera, in Desert Hot Springs, CA. Later, these motels became chic "spa retreats" converted during the 1990's. A selection of prints, from "The Motel Series" was gifted to the Palm Springs Art Museum, for their permanent collection, in 2002.

22 imagesIn Los Angeles, we do a lot of driving. Unless you take public transportation, ride a bike or motorcycle, you are stuck in your car. Although I've always shot images from moving vechicles, this series is a concious effort to document my surroundings while waiting for the red-light to change. Some are shot while driving forward, a real "grab-shot."

21 images"Road Pictures" Tri-X Film. These images have been strung together since the mid 1970's. They represent my journies in the world, the places I've been, occasionally a person I've met. The last images were shot in Italy, 2001. These photographs have not been published or exhibited, but they are ready for both. I would also like to do a limited edition portfolio of this group of images.

17 images"Off Wilshire" Tri-X Film. Right after my daughter was born, my work as an editorial photographer slowed down. I began developing projects such as "California Ruins" and "The Motel Series" instead of taking assignments. "Off Wilshire, 1980-1981" grew out of my daily walks with my baby in her snuggly strapped to my back, while I did errands in the neighborhood around where we lived in Beverly Hills.
